Booking a Taxi

Book a taxi now and find out information on other taxi services.

  • Hail a taxi here!

    • Hailing a taxi in Guernsey couldn't be easier. Taxis can be hailed on-demand below through this webpage, or if you prefer, you can download the Guernsey Taxi App on a mobile device (Android and iPhone).
    • In order to hail a taxi, you will first need to sign in or set up a new account.
    • When hailing a taxi, to provide the driver with your correct location, it is best to 'drop a pin' at the appropriate location. If necessary, you can also use the pencil icon to edit your address, making it easier for your driver to find you.
    • The booking system will provide you with an estimated fare and journey time, however, the actual fare will be based on the in-vehicle taxi meter and paid directly to the driver. The fares and journey time may differ due to traffic and diversions due to roadworks.
    • When waiting for the taxi to arrive, you will be given an estimated arrival time. Via the app, you can also view the location of your taxi driver in real time.

  • Book a taxi in advance

    • For the time being, the Guernsey Taxi App will be an on-demand app only and pre-booking a taxi in advance will still need to be done by contacting taxi companies directly.
    • A list of taxi services can be found here: www.theguernseydirectory.com/guernsey/taxi.
    • Taxi ranks are situated at the following locations:
      • Weighbridge, St Peter Port
      • Church Square, St Peter Port
      • The Albany, St Peter Port
      • Smith Street, St Peter Port
      • The Quay, St Peter Port
      • The Harbour, St Peter Port
      • The Airport, Forest
  • Book an accessible taxi

    • Accessible taxis are vehicles that have been specially adapted to carry a wheelchair and the cabs have good internal lighting to assist people who may have a visual impairment. All of the vehicles have wide, shallow ramps and the driver will use a winch system to help a passenger who uses a wheelchair to enter and exit the vehicle safely. Once inside the vehicle, the wheelchair will be safely secured to the vehicle floor and the passenger seated in the wheelchair will be provided with a seatbelt.
    • Accessible taxi drivers will assist with wheelchair access and will ensure that wheelchairs are properly and safely secured before setting off on a journey. Passengers will also be assisted to disembark at the end of their journey. In addition, accessible taxi drivers are trained to help people with moderate walking difficulties, as well as those with impaired vision, hearing, or a learning difficulty.
    • Each accessible taxi driver has a certificate to demonstrate that they have passed a training course on safe passenger handling and they will carry standard taxi identification. Accessible taxis will also display the international access symbol on the vehicle.
    • There are currently seven taxis that are specifically licensed as disability accessible. If you are unsure as to whether a vehicle will meet your requirements, please discuss this with the driver. The contact information for each operator with an accessible taxi can be found below:
    • Accessible taxis can operate from ranks and they can be pre-booked by phoning the taxi operator or taxi driver. You are recommended to book 24 hours in advance, but if you forget or need a taxi in a hurry, please contact the drivers to see if one is available. The driver only has to use the meter if you hire the cab at a taxi rank; if you book the taxi in advance, you and the driver can agree a fixed price if either of you are happy to do so.
  • Taxis and Private Hire

    • Licensing
      • Taxi operators are licensed by the Committee for the Environment & Infrastructure and must abide by the conditions of their road service licence, which includes ensuring drivers observe a Code of Conduct.
      • There are currently 115 permanent taxi service licences in operation plus up to 8 accessible taxi licences.
    • When pre-booking a taxi, should a customer prefer, they can ask the taxi operator for a fixed price for a journey. By choosing this option, the taxi driver will be operating on a private hire basis and will not be permitted to use the taximeter to calculate the fare.
    • There are also a number of private hire vehicles licensed to undertake wedding transfers, Island tours, corporate transfers etc.
    • If you have any complaints or queries concerning the taxi services, please contact Passenger Transport by emailing passengertransport@gov.gg or by phone on 01481 221000.
  • Tariffs

    • Taxis charge different rates depending on how many people are in the cab, what time of day it is or whether it is a Public Holiday. Make sure that the driver has the meter on either tariff 1 (normal hours) or tariff 2 (nights calls/Public Holidays). It should only be on tariff 3 (or above) if there are five or more passengers in the cab. The driver should not set the meter to tariff 3 or above just because there is a wheelchair user in the cab.
    • Normal hours are:
      • Monday to Friday 7am - 10pm
      • Saturday and Sunday 7am - 7pm
    • Public Holidays:
      • Monday to Friday 10pm - 7am
      • Saturday and Sunday 7pm - 7am
    • Accessible taxi drivers understand that disabled people might take a little longer to get into a taxi. There should not be any charge on the meter until the taxi drives off. However, if the passenger is not ready on time, then the driver may charge for the time they are kept waiting if it is longer than five minutes.
    • Should you have any queries, please contact Passenger Transport by emailing passengertransport@gov.gg or by phone on 01481 221000.
