When and how can I apply for a first provisional driving licence?
- You can apply for a first provisional licence one month prior to reaching the minimum age for the category you are applying for. For example, 13 years and 11 months for a category P (moped) licence or 16 years and 11 months for a category B (car) licence.
When and how can I renew my driving licence?
- You can renew a provisional driving licence up to one month in advance of it expiring.
- A full driving licence can be renewed up to two months in advance of it expiring.
I have lost my card and/or paper part of my driving licence, how can I apply for a new one and how much does it cost?
- You will need to apply for a duplicate driving licence. If you have either part, you will need to surrender this with the new application. The cost will be £35.00.
I have a provisional motorcycle licence that is due for renewal - what do I do?
- You must renew your provisional motorcycle licence in advance of it expiring or you will be unable to reapply for a period of 1 year.
- In most cases, licence holders will have to take a repeat compulsory motorcycle training course (Direct Access) within 1 month of the new licence becoming active.

My full driving licence has expired, will I need to retake my driving tests?
- Subject to no other disqualifying conditions, you can renew any driving licence categories up to 5 years after they have expired without needing to retake any driving tests.
I am moving to the Island, what do I need to do?
- New residents can drive using a valid full UK/Jersey/foreign driving licence for up to 1 year. We are able to exchange the majority of full driving licences. However, in some cases where no exchange agreements exist, a new resident may need to take out a provisional driving licence and pass a Guernsey driving test within 1 year in order to continue driving.

- Imported vehicles need to be registered within 14 days of arriving in the Island. The vehicle cannot be used on the public highway after this time until it is registered in Guernsey.
