Planning and Building

Welcome to the Planning and Building section of the States of Guernsey website.

 Planning

Planning is responsible for protecting, enhancing and facilitating the sustainable development of the physical environment of Guernsey, including the island's built environment, countryside and other open spaces. We aim to achieve quality development that respects Guernsey's historic, architectural and archaeological heritage, that makes a positive contribution to the built and natural environment and that achieves a safe and healthy living and working environment for the people of Guernsey.

Building Control

The primary function of Building Control is to process and determine applications and inspect building works in accordance with the requirements of the current Land Planning and Development Law and Building Regulations, and to follow best practice in building in accordance with the social, economic and energy use objectives of the States.

We aim to ensure that buildings are safe, healthy, accessible and sustainable for current and future generations.
